Fathers and Advocates for Life:

This is the first of a series of  the Canadian pages for the Deliverance Newsletter. I have personally felt very deeply for a unified effort among Anglican Priests worldwide for the defense of life. It is with this interest that it will be a Canadian page and not it’s own publication. At present we are addressing the needs of North American Priests with membership worldwide. Some time in the future we hope a Latin American translation would be available. For the immediate need  North Americans need to understand each others concerns because they are of a common dimension. One such example is state sponsored health care and issues that can be learned for pro-life people both sides of the border.

My Canadian roots are deep. Walter & Arthur Bentley owned Bentley Tennis Rackets in Canada and the United States and my grandmother’s side was Rt. Hon. Sir William Thomas White (as finance Minister he introduced your income tax)).  My dad Alexander, was a graduate of Ridley College in Saint Catherine's.  Every summer Barbra (family from Quebec) and I attend services at the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Ottawa. I believe I have met all ACCC Bishops, Past & Present  w/ exception of one. However this isn’t about my heritage but that I do have an affection for Canada and know some of your accomplishments and struggles.

At presently APFL is growing faster than we have help and are very much in need of the support of all Priests in Canada. Current events, items of interest, research , prayers etc. are needed. Articles submitted should be in Word format (Microsoft or Corel), attached to email and approx. the length of this column or slightly longer. Please support our effort, the cause is great    God be with you!

A national group of pro-life physicians (Canadian Physicians for Life) in dialogue with the Ontario Human Rights Commission gave concern about freedom to withdrawal from what they feel are “contentious medical acts” by defacto or a coerced referral. Of immediate illustration would be of course the abortion issue.

In Canada physicians can legally perform an abortion at the cost of the government. They may also seek out possible pregnant women for that purpose. This organization believes “It is not the responsibility of any physician to manage, promote, or enhance access to a procedure which he or she finds medically harmful and morally repugnant “. Please read the entire document at this link. Canadian Physicians for Life

Surgical Abortion Surgical abortion refers to abortion done using surgical instruments.  Procedures vary due to the stage of the pregnancy and size of the fetus at the time of the abortion. Suction aspiration is the method used for approximately 90% of all abortions in Canada reported in Canada in 2004 and is generally used between six and 14 weeks of pregnancy.

University of Calgary Pro-Life Group May Now Lose Funding After Censorship

Pro-life advocates at the school have feuded with UC officials for some time about a display that includes graphic pictures. UC authorities don't want students, faculty and others exposed to the abortion pictures, so it has instructed members of Campus Pro-Life to turn the pictures inward, which makes them not visible to people walking along the college grounds. When three students wouldn't comply on Monday, they were served with legal papers charges them with trespassing. Now, the University of Calgary Students' Union plans to hold a meeting on Tuesday to determine whether it will take any actions against Campus Pro-Life for refusing to give in to the anti-free speech demands of the college. The parallels between Kennedy and Trudeau     by Fr. Bentley 2-03-09

Minister of Justice, and later Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau pushed the abortion agenda with such statements as 'the state has no place in the bedrooms of the nation'. Teddy Kennedy, stateside said” Some questions may be inherently individual ones . . . the proper role of religion is to appeal to the conscience of the individual, not the coercive power of the state.” Pushing the issue of abortion (choice) is not the only issue Trudeau and Kennedy archetypes share. Their greatest achievement is that God and religion have nothing to do within the political realm.

Trudeau like Teddy Kennedy was a cafeteria style Catholic who could be disobedient to the Church teachings and still count on its vote. To both Kennedy and Trudeau and other politicians who share their popularity in history, their Christianity is limited to its setting. Unlike Sir Thomas Moore, they refused to take a stand that would find them on the side of the church. Hence gradually the state with their help undid the law that would become the tail that waged the dog. The Criminal Code changes in Canada of 1969 were the base for the new morality through legislation while the church was orphaned because of it’s own difficulties.

It is my own opinion that this law being the teacher had a faster result in Canada because of the absence of the a third branch of government (in reality). In the states at times there has been a block of such issues by the social conscience of Presidents. There is this argument of State and Provincial rights because both entities’ started as confederations. The separation of federalist claims  continues to this day, “I am personally against abortion on demand, but I believe it is very clear that there must be legislation brought in that will deal with what is becoming simply a mish-mash of approaches” - Paul Martin (Halifax Daily News, July 20, 1989), “It’s very clear that we are going to have 10 different [abortion] laws and that we are going to have these laws made by judges” (Halifax Chronicle-Herald, July 20, 1989). The future continues as a forward thrust, toward the ultimate statement of nothingness. “My own views on abortion, I'm not on either pole of that and neither of the interest groups on either end of this issue would probably be comfortable with my views” Stephen Harper. “No one is pro-abortion”. Barack Obama   The abortion mills are still running and the killing still proceeds. This space is reserved for a Canadian Priest that will write this column in next edition.
